Joseph Seager caught up with Pixie Lott, chatting about world domination, Hollywood, Brit awards and fashion lines.

Hello Pixie Lott. How are you doing? Where are you currently?
I’m great thanks. I’m in LA at the moment.

How’s 2010 going thus far?
2010 is really going well, the schedule is manic but I wouldn’t want it any other way! The highlight so far was being nominated for three Brit Awards, I felt so honoured as I had only been in the music scene for 8 months!

If people don’t know what you and your music are about (where have they been!?), how would you describe yourself?
Soulful pop that is contemporary with sometimes a retro feel.

What made you decide on Pixie as your stage name?
When I was born my mum nicknamed me Pixie as I was like a little fairy. My sister and brother who were 1 and 2 years old always called me Pixie and thought that was my name and it just stuck!

You are making your acting debut in film Fred: The Movie, how did that come about?
While I was in LA in October last year, I was asked to audition. I only went to the audition as something had been cancelled – I felt like this was fate! I then got the part.

Your acting isn’t going to take over your music career, is it?
I love acting but music is my passion and always will be.

As you mentioned, you were nominated for a few Brit awards this year, how did it feel coming so close to winning but being pipped at the post, as it were?
Winning would have obviously been amazing but I was so delighted just to be nominated after being around for such a short time.

When are we due a new album?
Probably not until next year in the UK though in the USA my album will be out later this year with some different tracks on it.

You released Gravity as your fourth single following Cry Me Out, what factors do you consider when selecting a single?
I like to listen to the fans and also what my friends have to say. The label also advise me.

Back to your roots, how did you first come to music?
I have always been listening to music from when I was a baby, as my parents always had music playing loud around the house.

Who would you love to perform with, past or present?
Past, I would have loved to have perform with Donny Hathaway and present I would love to perform with Stevie Wonder.

You’ve played some massive venues; do you still feel the nerves before taking the stage?
No, I never get nervous just very excited!

How did supporting Rihanna on her Rated R tour come about?
Rihanna’s team approached my team.

What are you currently listening to on your mp3 player?
James Morrison, Adele, MGMT, Kings of Leon.

Who do you think is going to sum up the sound of 2010?
Pop artists.

Best venue you’ve played?
V Festival in Chelmsford as it’s on my home territory!

What do you miss the most when you’re on the road touring?
My family and friends.

If Pixie Lott was a Jelly Bean, what colour and flavour would you be and why?
Green, apple flavour….green is my favourite colour and apples are good for you!!

Some quick fire questions:

Tea or coffee?
Herbal Tea

Summer or winter?
Summer

Superman or Batman?
Batman

Mac or PC?
Mac

Reading or Leeds?
Leeds

Good answer, any plans to play Leeds?
Hopefully on my headline tour in the autumn.

And finally, what’s next on the agenda for Pixie Lott? Dominating Hollywood? Brit Award winning?
At the moment I’m writing and recording new tracks. I have a fashion line with Lipsy coming out on the 28th April, Pixie Festival and Pixie Party, which is really exciting. A children’s film called “Fred” in US is coming out in September, where I play one of the lead roles. I’m also going to be filming another film in the summer. I’m really looking forward to being Rihanna’s special guest on her tour starting in May around the UK and Ireland.

Thanks Pixie. And good luck!

Since the release of her debut single, 'Mama Do' back in June 2009, Pixie Lott has lead on to become one of the biggest UK female solo artists of the contemporary music landscape. Pixie's debut album, 'Turn It Up' has spanned sales close to one million in the UK alone, producing a successive number of Top 20 singles, including two #1 hits to her name. She has received numerous accolades and has also earned herself a place in the Guinness Book of Records. Pixie is also a well-renowned songwriter, producing hits for artists such as Alexandra Burke and Selena Gomez, to name but a few. Pixie also starred as Judy in Nickelodeon's 'Fred: The Movie' and is rumoured to be lined up for more movie roles in the future. Pixie is also a prolific fashion icon, working closely alongside high street chain Lipsy to create her own collections. With her sophomore album due in November this year and a new fashion range available soon, there's no stopping Pixie and her inimitable talent.
Pixie has recently become a patron of CRY, a charity which offers support and awareness of cardiac risk in the young. Speaking about the charity, Pixie has said, "I've become a patron of CRY as it affects so many young people and it's crazy that a seemingly fit and young person can just drop down dead. I feel it's important to raise awareness and will be using my new role to spread the word." To find out more, or donate to CRY, then visit their website now.
