Pop star Pixie Lott is backing a new campaign that hopes to stamp out bullying.

Charity BeatBullying is hoping to mobilise hundreds of thousands of young people from all around the world to take part in a virtual march for children’s rights.

There are already 135,000 supporters signed up to The Big March 2012, including many celebrities, and you can join them at beatbullying.org/bigmarch

You’ll be invited to create a personal avatar to represent you on the global online march which will culminate in the presentation of a petition demanding the UN enshrine protection against bullying into the rights of a child.

Here Pixie Lott tells Sun readers why every child deserves a life free from bullying.

BULLYING is unacceptable.

It’s important to take a stand against it. It’s a big problem in schools and when kids are growing up it can ruin their lives.

Everyone should have the right to feel safe. Your youth is when you’re meant to have the most fun and be carefree — kids shouldn’t have to put up with such nasty behaviour.

Bullying happens all the time, in loads of different forms. Sometimes it can be extreme and sometimes it can seem relatively harmless but it does happen everywhere. And even if it’s just name-calling, that can be really hurtful.

And anyone can be a target. It’s not necessarily about the way you look, it can be jealousy or any number of reasons.

Kids can be so cruel. Some kids might bully and not mean it, and a lot of the time it’s the bully that’s the insecure one with problems at home.

But there are cases when they do know what they’re doing. If they’re physically hitting someone then they’re obviously being malicious.

Sometimes kids don’t want to speak out about bullying. A lot of the time they don’t want to talk to their teacher or their mum or dad because they are worried that the bullying will get worse.

But there are websites like cybermentors.org.uk that kids can use anonymously to get advice and get help.

I think that if you can talk to someone about it, rather than bottling it all up, it makes it a lot easier.

And it’s absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. The more you keep it to yourself, the longer it’s going to go on for.

I saw bullying when I was at school, it’s everywhere. The only way to crack down on it is with campaigns like this. Raising awareness is really important.

And this is definitely something that can be solved — we can put the right rules in place to stamp this sort of thing out.

The Big March will tell the Government that they need to do more. Not enough is being done.

I’ve been involved in BeatBullying for quite a while. I donated Get Weak — a song that I wrote about bullying — to them because it’s a cause that’s so close to me.

It makes me really happy to be a part of it all, and I’ve had loads of letters from children saying it’s helped them.

A lot of kids tell me they’ve had a horrible few years — but they tell me that listening to that track and my music has really helped them through.

I was so pleased to be able to release that song. It didn’t make it on to the album and I thought it would never get heard but I wrote it for teens who are going through a tough time. I’m really glad they got to hear it somehow.

I heard about the Big March and I think that’s going to play a big role in making people more aware about bullying.

Through the Big March we’ll be able to get more and more people involved in fighting bullying. And it’s going to give the victims more support.

So when people talk to the Government about the problem there will be a big petition backing them.

I think the avatars are a really good idea as well. You can personalise them and play around with them. It will appeal to young people and you can be a part of the movement without even leaving your house.

Hopefully through this, kids that are feeling alone will realise that they’re not. If they see that people are really behind them then hopefully they’ll be able to speak out.

And by publicising the issues, hopefully with a wave of awareness we can stamp out bullying for good.
