Victoria Lott was born January 12, 1991 in England. She earned the nickname “Pixie” at an early age from her mother. She was a “tiny, cute baby” that looked like a fairy. The daughter of a stockbroker and housewife, Pixie began taking dance lessons at the age of five. At the age of 11 Pixie Lott received a scholarship to attend London’s renowned Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. There she appeared in a wide range of stage productions including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. At 13 she recorded vocals for Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters’ opera Ca Ira.

When she was 14 Pixie Lott answered an ad that simply stated, “Looking for next hot diva.” Although the ad asked for someone between the ages of 16 and 25, Lott lied about her age and auditioned anyway. David Sonenberg, who placed the ad, became Pixie Lott’s manager and put her in touch with songwriters in both the US and the UK.

Eventually, American label executive L.A. Reid heard a demo of Lott’s. He flew to England and heard her sing live for him at his hotel. As a result, Reid took her under his wing. Finally, a bidding war resulted in Pixie Lott’s signing by Mercury Records in the UK and Interscope in the US.

Pixie Lott lists Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston as major influences on her style of singing. However, it is impossible to hear some of her soulful tracks and not think also of Amy Winehouse and Duffy. There is also a refreshing teen energy and freshness to Pixie Lott’s recordings.

Pixie Lott’s first official single “Mama Do (Uh Oh Uh Oh)” was released June 8, 2009 in the UK. The song was produced and co-written by music industry veteran Phil Thornalley and Mads Hauge. “Mama Do (Uh Oh Uh Oh)” went straight to the top of the UK pop singles chart and sold over 50,000 digital copies in its first week of release. Pixie Lott told MTV UK the song is, “about sneaking out of the house, being a bit naughty and going out to meet a special someone without my parents knowing. I think it really suits me and relates to my age. So it’s really fun to sing…”

Turn It Up will be Pixie Lott’s first album, and it is due to hit stores in September 2009. The list of contributing songwriters and producers is a stellar one for a new artist. Kara DioGuardi, songwriter, producer, and American Idol judge, RedOne, the man in the production booth for Lady GaGa’s smash hits, Greg Kurstin, Lily Allen’s songwriting partner, and Toby Gad, songwriter and producer who worked on “If I Were a Boy” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” have all contributed to the project.

Since the release of her debut single, 'Mama Do' back in June 2009, Pixie Lott has lead on to become one of the biggest UK female solo artists of the contemporary music landscape. Pixie's debut album, 'Turn It Up' has spanned sales close to one million in the UK alone, producing a successive number of Top 20 singles, including two #1 hits to her name. She has received numerous accolades and has also earned herself a place in the Guinness Book of Records. Pixie is also a well-renowned songwriter, producing hits for artists such as Alexandra Burke and Selena Gomez, to name but a few. Pixie also starred as Judy in Nickelodeon's 'Fred: The Movie' and is rumoured to be lined up for more movie roles in the future. Pixie is also a prolific fashion icon, working closely alongside high street chain Lipsy to create her own collections. With her sophomore album due in November this year and a new fashion range available soon, there's no stopping Pixie and her inimitable talent.
Pixie has recently become a patron of CRY, a charity which offers support and awareness of cardiac risk in the young. Speaking about the charity, Pixie has said, "I've become a patron of CRY as it affects so many young people and it's crazy that a seemingly fit and young person can just drop down dead. I feel it's important to raise awareness and will be using my new role to spread the word." To find out more, or donate to CRY, then visit their website now.
